Tiger Woods-hosted Genesis Invitational has collaborated with international sportswear brand Fanatics to support those impacted by the devastating wildfire in Los Angeles. Last week, a tragic fire erupted in Southern California, which has adversely affected the area. It destroyed thousands of buildings, impacting the lives of many.
Recently, the Genesis Invitational came forward in support of the affected people. They released a statement on their official X (formerly Twitter) account, revealing their collaboration with Fanatics.
The sportswear brand has launched merchandise with "LA Strong" prints and announced that it will not be earning any profit from the sales; instead, it will donate the money to the American Red Cross and the LA Fire Department Foundation. Releasing the statement on X, Genesis Invitational wrote:
"The Genesis Invitational has teamed up with @Fanatics and the LA sports community to support those impacted by the tragic wildfires. Fanatics, Leagues, and the participating sports organizations will not profit from the sale of the LA Strong merchandise and will make a donation directly to the American Red Cross and the LA Fire Department Foundation. The American Red Cross provides assistance to those affected by these fires and the LA Fire Department Foundation provides much needed support and equipment to first responders."
The Genesis Invitational is an annual PGA Tour event that takes place in February. It is held in Pacific Palisades, California, and is hosted by the Tiger Woods Foundation.
It's one of the oldest PGA Tour events, established in 1926. It was previously called the Los Angeles Open before being renamed the Genesis Invitational.
Tiger Woods' Genesis Invitational monitoring the condition of LA fires
Last week, Genesis Invitational released a statement on their social media account about how they have been monitoring the devastating fires in LA as the tournament nears its start. In their statement, they emphasized their gratitude "to be the first responders."
"We are continuing to monitor the devastating fires in our community. Our immediate concern is the health and welfare of those in the affected areas. We are grateful to the first responders who have tirelessly supported and protected our community," read their statement.
They are monitoring the condition, however, so far there is no update if the event will move to any other venue. Tiger Woods played at the tournament last year, but he was forced to withdraw after playing the first round of 72. He might return to play in the competition in 2025.
Meanwhile, the PGA Tour has already kickstarted the 2025 season with the Sentry event in Hawaii. The 2025 Genesis Invitational will take place from February 13 to 16 at the Riviera Country Club in California. It's a signature event featuring a limited field. Hideki Matsuyama is the tournament's defending champion.
