Tiger Woods is set to return to the Open Championship after missing it last year. However, this time, he has made a slight change in driver and has opted against the loft.
Woods is making his 23rd Open Championship start this week. The final major of the season will be played from Thursday, July 18 to Sunday, July 21 at the Royal Troon.
On Thursday, July 18, Dan Rappaport of Barstool Sports reported that the 15-time major champion had changed his driver for the Open Championship.
"A driver change for Tiger Woods this week," said Rappaport. "He'd been using a 10.5 degree TaylorMade Qi10 LS driver set to 9.75. Wanted less loft in the wind so he switched to a 9.0 head set to 9.5. That's in addition to bending his 3-iron one degree stronger. Wants low bullets."
Woods is set to tee off alongside Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele for the opening round. The trio will begin the round on Thursday at 9:37 ET from the first hole.
The 48-year-old veteran is looking for his fourth Open Championship title and first major since 2019. For the uninitiated, he has previously won the tournament in 2000, 2005, and 2006. Besides, he is also trying to win his first title in over four years.
