Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy recently made a deal with KPMG Insights for their golf league, TGL, on January 6, 2025. The tech-infused league is all set to start at the SoFi Center in West Palm Beach, Florida.
TGL is owned by TMRW Sports, which is a venture started by Woods, McIlroy, and Mike McCarley, a former ESPN executive. There are multiple big names behind TGL, like the Fenway Sports Group and Connect Ventures. KPMG US has joined hands with TGL to provide analytics and performance insights throughout this tournament. Being sponsored by KPMG, Collin Morikawa shared the company's partnership with Tiger Woods and McIlroy's TGL:
"Great to see my friends at @KPMG_US bringing KPMG Performance Insights to @TGL!"
The KPMG Performance platform is a high-end data analytics platform. The company was founded back in 1987 after a merger of Klynveld Main Goerder and Peat Marwick International. KPMG has been around for 38 years now, and they have grown into a multinational company. As reported by Statista.com, KPMG holds a hefty net worth of $38.4 billion.
Before stepping up with Tiger Woods and McIlroy's TGL, KPMG Golf has been a partner of the LPGA Tour. Besides Morikawa, they have sponsored big names like Yuka Saso, Leona Maguire, Stacy Lewis, Mariah Stackhouse, and Maverick McNealy. The 2025 KPMG Women's PGA Championship is scheduled to begin on June 19 at Fields Ranch East, Frisco.
Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy's TGL is all set to begin:
The league was all set to begin from January 2024 but a power system failure damaged the roof. Now, the SoFi Center is set to hold the first season of the TGL on January 7, 2025.
TGL features a lot of players from the PGA Tour like Patrick Cantlay, Tommy Fleetwood, Billy Horschel, Wyndham Clark, Ludvig Åberg, Justin Rose, and Xander Schauffele.
Six teams will participate in this tournament, each featuring 4 players. On December 7, 2024, TGL shared the full schedule and tee times on their official Instagram page:
"Exactly one month out from the debut of the @TOLGOLF. Everything you need to prepare for the tech-infused primetime golf league beginning in January 2025"
Matches in this tournament will be played on a 3-vs-3 basis for nine holes of alternate shots, and singles for the next six holes. This unique indoor golf tournament features shot timers, player microphones, and referees.
Although the 82-time PGA Tour winner is one of the founding members of TGL, Tiger Woods will not be there on the opening day. The New York Golf Club and the Bay Golf Club are all set to lock horns on January 7, 2025, 9 pm EST. Woods will tee off for the Jupiter Links Golf Club at the SoFi Center on January 14, 2025.
