Tiger Woods is unclear and is "figuring" the status of the upcoming Genesis Invitational. The tournament hosted by Woods since 2017 is scheduled from February 13 to 16, 2025 at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles.

The 49-year-old was asked about the Genesis Invitational at the TGL's match between Jupiter Links Golf Club and Los Angeles Golf on Tuesday, January 14. Talking about the PGA Tour event, he said (via Reuters):

"We're trying to just figure everything out and make sure that everyone is safe and we have meetings scheduled going forward. But as of right now, we're not really focused on the tournament. It's more about what we can do to help everyone who's struggling, who's lost homes and had their lives changed."

Genesis Invitational is one of the most prestigious events on the PGA Tour and has a prize purse of $20 million. Max Homa, also a Southern Californian native, said:

"No offense to Tiger and TGL and Genesis, but it seems silly at the moment to be overly focused on a golf tournament when people are still continuing to have this go on and living in a bit of fear in So Cal. It's been really tough, but again, I'm just very happy that a lot of people have gotten out, been safe."

The Los Angeles wildfires have had a lethal impact on the region with at least 25 people having lost their lives. More than 12,000 houses have been destroyed in the fires, as per AP News. More than 200,000 people have been displaced because of the tragedy. Accuweather has estimated that the wildfire has caused economic loss and damage of between $250 billion and $275 billion.

PGA Tour releases a memo on the Genesis Invitational

With uncertainty over the Genesis Invitational, the PGA Tour recently released a memo to its members on Thursday, January 9. The tournament is the second signature event of the PGA Tour with one of the highest prize purses i.e., 20 million.

PGA Tour's memo didn't elaborate on if the tournament will be held at the same venue or if it will be relocated. The memo read (via LA Times):

"At this point, it is premature to discuss the potential impact on the Genesis Invitational. Although The Riviera Country Club has not been directly affected by the fires, our immediate concern is the health and welfare of those in the affected communities, including all our members who have ties to Southern California. We will keep the membership updated as the situation develops."

The tournament was first played in 1926, almost a century back and the Riviera Country Club has hosted it a record 60 times and without any interruption from 1999.
