Tiger Woods is heading home after playing two rounds of the 2024 PGA Championship. The American legend shot rounds of 72 and 77, resulting in a total score of 7 over par.
The projected cutline for the tournament is under par 1, taking out Tiger Woods. Notably, the PGA Championship's second round was suspended on Friday, May 17. The play resumed on Satuday and the final list of players progressing to the concluding two rounds was announced after round 2.
Woods failed to make the cut. He completed 36 holes of the major, sitting eight strokes behind the cutline in a tie for 134th place.
Tiger Woods had a decent start with a round of 72 on Thursday, May 16. In the first round, he shot three birdies and four bogeys to score 1 over par. However, he struggled significantly during the second round, beginning with a double bogey on the second hole, followed by a bogey and another double bogey on the fourth.
Although he tried to bounce back with two consecutive birdies on the seventh and eighth holes, his struggles persisted on the back nine. He shot two consecutive bogeys on the 11th and 12th holes. Woods finished with a birdie on the 18th hole, settling for a score of 6 over par for the round and a total of +7.
Meanwhile, Xander Schauffele maintained his lead with a score of 68 on Friday. Scottie Scheffler shot 66 on Friday, climbing eight positions on the leaderboard to tie for fourth place.
The second round of the 2024 PGA Championship will resume on Saturday, May 18, at 7:15 a.m. ET, with the remaining players teeing off to complete their rounds.
Besides Tiger Woods, several well-known golfers struggle to stay above cut line at PGA Championship 2024
It's not only Tiger Woods who is on the verge of returning home without playing the final two rounds of the PGA Championship; several other top-ranked players are struggling to make it to the third round. Jon Rahm shot a 72 on Friday, dropping 33 positions on the leaderboard. He is on the borderline to make the cut with a score of even par, one stroke behind the cutline of -1.
Ludvig Aberg, also tied for 80th position with Jon Rahm and others, is on the cliffhanger of making the cut. Akshay Bhatia finished two strokes behind the cutline.
Sungjae Im also struggled with his game at the Major and will most likely miss the cut. He shot rounds of 73 and 72 to score 3 over par. Adam Scott, Wyndham Clark, Phil Mickelson, and last year's PGA Championship hero Michael Block settled below the cutline and will probably return home after the second round. Nick Dunlap tied for 123rd place with a score of +5, while Sam Burns finished with a score of +3, both below the cutline.
The second round will resume on Saturday, May 18, after which the players who will cut will tee off for the third round. The finale will take place on Sunday, May 19.
