The PGA Tour is venturing back to Utah after a gap of nearly six decades with the Black Desert Championship. The inaugural edition of the FedEx Cup Fall event is scheduled to tee off on Thursday, October 10.
The four-day event is being held at the picturesque Black Desert Resort in Ivins, Utah and it features a number of PGA Tour regulars. World No.83 Keith Mitchell is one of the most experienced golfers in the debut event’s field and is the outright favorite to win it.
Kurt Kitayama, Beau Hossler Seamus Power, Chris Kirk, and Patrick Rodgers are some other popular names to watch this weekend. Ahead of the competition, let’s take a look at the top three favorites to win the 2024 Black Desert Championship.
Top 3 golfers who can win the inaugural Black Desert Championship
#1 Keith Mitchell
Keith Mitchell tops the 2024 Black Desert Championship’s odds list. The PGA Tour golfer enters the competition with +1800 odds, according to SportsLine. The 32-year-old, who has 185 starts on the circuit, will be eyeing his second career win, after The Honda Classic in 2019.
Having had an uneven season, Mitchell's chances of winning this weekend remain mixed. He has had several strong finishes including three top-10 finishes. He finished T3 at the Sanderson Farms Championship and T9 at both The American Express and the Cognizant Classic. However, he also suffered six missed cuts including at major events like the PGA Championship and The Players Championship.
The experienced golfer’s biggest paydays this season came at The American Express, where he earned $254,100, and at the RBC Canadian Open where he bagged $227,950.
#2 Kurt Kitayama
Second on the 2024 Black Desert Championship’s odds list is Kurt Kitayama with +2500 odds, according to SportsLine. The golfer has had a decent 2024 season so far with two top-10 finishes, a T6 at the 3M Open, earning $273,375, and a T8 at the WM Phoenix Open, bagging $248,600.
Notably, the 31-year-old American finished T19 at The Players Championship and T26 at the PGA Championship. However, he missed cuts at events like the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the Memorial Tournament, and the US Open, making his season a mixed bag of results.
Coming off another missed cut at the Wyndham Championship, Kitayama will be eyeing a big comeback this weekend in Utah.
#3 Beau Hossler
Beau Hossler sits behind Seamus Power on the odds list. However, he looks like a better in-form pick. The 29-year-old enters the competition with +2800 odds, as per SportsLine. Having faced several highs and lows throughout the 2024 season, Hossler will be gunning to make his mark at the debut Black Desert Championship outing.
The highlight of Hossler’s season has been the runner-up finish at the Sanderson Farms Championship last weekend. He shot 265 (-23) and earned a whopping $828,400. The golfer had also finished T6 at the Farmers Insurance Open as well as T4 at the Myrtle Beach Classic. His T14 finish at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and RBC Canadian Open and T12 finish at the Wyndham Championship were overshadowed by his struggles at major championships.
Having missed cuts at seven tournaments, including the PGA Championship and the US Open, Hossler will want to regain his form by winning in Utah.
