For Tiger Woods, 2024 was not a great year on the professional front, as he participated in only a handful of events and made just one cut. However, he still managed to create several moments that generated buzz in the golf circuit.
In this article, we will highlight five Tiger Woods moments from the 2024 season.
Top 5 Tiger Woods moments in 2024
1) Split from Nike after 27 years
The year 2024 began with the conclusion of one of the most iconic athlete-brand partnerships. In the first week of January, Tiger announced his decision to part ways with Nike, a relationship that had endured since the start of his professional career.
"Over 27 years ago, I was fortunate to start a partnership with one of the most iconic brands in the world,” Woods wrote in his social media post. "The days since have been filled with so many amazing moments and memories, if I started naming them, I could go on forever."
2) Launch of Sun Day Red
Nearly a month after parting ways with Nike, Tiger Woods announced the launch of his new apparel brand, Sun Day Red, in collaboration with golf equipment giant TaylorMade.
"It's transitional. I'm no longer a kid anymore," he said in the official statement. "Life changes, I have kids now, and this is an important part of transitioning into this part of my life, to have a product and a brand that I'm proud of."
In an official statement, Woods explained that the name Sun Day Red was chosen to highlight his legacy and the historical significance of wearing this iconic color on Sundays.
3) Record cut streak at the Masters
The five-time Green Jacket winner made his 24th straight cut at the Masters Tournament after shooting an even-par 72 in the second round. With this, he broke the record held by Fred Couples and Gary Player for the most consecutive cuts at Augusta National.
However, Woods eventually finished 60th on the leaderboard after going 16-over in four rounds.
4) One more surgery
Last year, when Woods returned to action after subtalar fusion surgery, he expressed hope to play at least one event a month during the season. However, this plan didn’t materialize, as he managed to participate in only five official events.
Eventually, the 15-time Major champion was forced to undergo surgery in September to address ongoing back issues.
"The surgery went smoothly, and I'm hopeful this will help alleviate the back spasms and pain I was experiencing throughout most of the 2024 season," Woods said in a social media post.
5) Tiger Woods and Charlie Woods face playoff heartbreak at the PNC Championship
Earlier this month, Tiger Woods and his son, Charlie Woods, appeared at the PNC Championship for the fifth consecutive year. Despite their previous attempts, they had yet to secure a victory. This time, they had a strong start, finishing Day 1 tied for the lead.
On Day 2, they shot an impressive 57, bringing their aggregate score to 28-under, a record for the tournament. However, defending champions Bernhard Langer and his son, Jason, matched their score. In the playoff, the Langer duo clinched the win by shooting an eagle, leaving Team Woods trophyless for yet another year.
