English professional golfer Richard Bland has played on the DP World Tour for about two decades before making a switch to the LIV Golf Series. Having played on LIV Golf for over two seasons now, Bland hinted that the Saudi-backed league might just be better than the DP World Tour.
Speaking in a press conference ahead of the 2024 LIV Golf UK event, Richard Bland said that the LIV Series kept him more competitively engaged. He told media including Sportskeeda:
“I’ve got more of an edge, competitively, playing here than I would have playing on the DP World Tour. That’s not to put the DP World Tour down or bad-mouth it in any way. My personal opinion is just that the standard here is higher. A lot higher.”
While Bland has not won on the LIV Golf series just yet, he has won two Major tournaments on the PGA Tour Champions in his debut year. He won both the Majors that he participated in, taking the golf world by storm.
Richard Bland not offered PGA Tour Champions membership due to LIV Golf affiliation
Despite winning the Senior PGA Championship and the Senior US Open back-to-back, Richard Bland was not offered membership to the tour. The PGA Tour Champions denied him membership due to the fact that he is affiiated with the LIV Golf Series.
Regardless, Bland was ecstatic on winning two Major tournaments in a row. Speaking via Golf Monthly, he said:
"This is very special. "I'm struggling to put this into words right now. It was a tough day, we were chasing him all week. I think he had the lead pretty much wire-to-wire. I made a great birdie on 15 to go one in front and tried to trip over myself on the last. I'm just thrilled beyond words to be stood here. To go two-for-two is beyond my wildest dreams."
Richard Bland will not be at the Senior Open Championship, which is clashing with the LIV Golf UK event. Bland will be in UK from July 26 to 28, playing for the Cleeks GC team instead.
Bland has not won a LIV Golf Tournament. His highest finish of the 2024 season came when he finished eighth at the Hong Kong event. The Cleeks GC is currently sitting in eighth place as the 2024 LIV Season comes to an end.
Bryson DeChambeau-led Crushers GC is curently first in the team standings, while Jon Rahm's team Legion XIII is in second place. Joaquin Niemann holds first place in the individual standings. Rahm is in second place while Sergio Garcia is in third place so far.
