Jack Nicklaus turns 85 today (January 21) and recently, fans got reminded of the time when he taught Johnny Miller how to make the long putt. Flushing It Golf posted a short clip of the video where Nicklaus can be seen explaining his move.

In August 2010, Nicklaus attended the ceremonial opening of the Harbor Shores Golf Club. Arnold Palmer, Johnny Miller, and Tom Watson also attended the event. In the video, Miller can be seen struggling to make the putt on the 10th hole, which was around 102 feet. Without any practice shot, Jack Nicklaus casually stepped up and drained the 102-foot-long putt.

Johnny Miller: “There’s no chance putting it.”
Nicklaus: “Want me to show you how to putt it?”

Jack Nicklaus was inaugurating the new golf course, and shortly after this incredible putt, the crowd erupted in cheers. At the 2018 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship, a reporter interacted with Nicklaus. When he was shown the video and asked about the 102-foot-long putt, Nicklaus explained his thought process behind the shot. In the interview, Jack Nicklaus said:

"All I could see was the opening of the golf course Steve, and Johnny had a play style that originally when we did the golf course that was fairway. And I said well it's a pretty difficult pitch shot. I think I can put that in the green and then they can putt it up the hill if they want to...
All I could see was people coming to play Harbor Shores and they get to the 10th hole, and they take a wedge out and put it on the green. Divot, divot, divot, divot... I said, can't have that. So, I went down there and took a whack at that putt, it went in!!"
