Bryson DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy were spotted practicing at Shadow Creek Golf Club ahead of the Showdown. This will be the first event featuring LIV Golf stars facing off against PGA Tour professionals.
The Showdown will take place on Tuesday, December 17, at Shadow Creek Golf Club. This 18-hole exhibition will feature DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka from the LIV Golf circuit taking on McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler of the PGA Tour.
On Monday, December 16, NUCLR Golf, a popular golf tracking account on X, shared a clip of Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau hitting darts at the Shadow Creek GC. Here's the clip:
DeChambeau and McIlroy are playing in the same event for the first time since the Open Championship, where both missed the cut. However, a month before that, both were in contention at the US Open, where the Northern Irishman made several errors at the end, resulting in DeChambeau's second major win.
"The players want to play together more often" - Rory McIlroy says ahead of the Showdown
During the press conference ahead of the Showdown, Rory McIlroy said that the players had to take things into their own hands and give something like this to the fans. He said, as per Golf Monthly:
"I don’t know if it was to spur things with everything that went on, it was really about us taking this into our own hands a little bit and do something outside of either tour to not only give back to the fans, but to show them or at least let them know we’re trying."
"The players want to play together more often. I feel like we’re all in this holding pattern because of the negotiations and the deal and it’s not really good for anyone."
He added that the PGA Tour was initially apprehensive about releasing him and Scottie Scheffler for the event but relented after a few discussions.
"They’ve been very supportive,” he added. “It took a few conversations to get them to the point where they saw this could be a good thing in the long run. It took a few conversations. It wasn’t all smooth sailing but we got there in the end."
The Showdown will be played over the 18 holes divided into three formats. The first six holes will be played in fourball format, the holes 13-18 will be in foursome format and the final six in singles.
This will be the first event where the winners will be awarded the prize money in cryptocurrency.
