Bryson DeChambeau staged a hilarious moment with Scottie Scheffler ahead of the The Showdown. In the lighthearted clip posted by Bryson DeChambeau on his Instagram, the LIV Golf star left the PGA Tour star handing for a high-five.

In the short clip, DeChambeau and Scheffler are seen with serious expressions and arms crossed like rivals. In the next frame, Scheffler raises his hands to initiate a high-five, but the 2024 US Open Champion leaves him hanging. The World No. 1 then embarrassingly clasps his own hands together instead.

DeChambeau captioned the video:

"Golf is back"

The Showdown, a clash between top LIV Golf and PGA stars, will be held on Tuesday, December 17 at Shadow Creek Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 18-hole match comes against the backdrop of increasing competition between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour. PGA Tour's Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy will face LIV Golf's Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka.

After the beginning of LIV Golf in 2022, several big names on the PGA Tour, such as Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, and Brooks Koepka, defected to the Saudi-backed Tour. This led to the PGA Tour suspending players who joined the rival tour. Soon after, 11 LIV Golfers filed an antitrust lawsuit against the PGA Tour.

Despite a merger being announced in June 2023, there have been no updates on it after more than 18 months. Therefore, at The Showdown, players from both the rival tours would aim to prove the superiority of their respective tours. The winner of the tournament will win a $10 million prize in cryptocurrency,

Rory McIlroy says that The Showdown "can bring fans an incredible day of entertainment"

The Showdown, an 18-hole event, will broadcast on TNT, TBS, and truTV at 6 pm ET on Tuesday, December 17. Rory McIlroy will represent the PGA Tour at the event. Talking about the event, he said (via Golf Magic):

"The Showdown in Vegas is designed to provide fans with the excitement of head-to-head match play, like the intense competition seen in team events like the Ryder Cup. We all want to see more of the best golfers in the world going head-to-head, battling it out on the back nine of a tournament."
"At a time where the professional game has felt divided, we believe this event can bring fans an incredible day of entertainment," he added.

Talking about the event, the World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler said:

"It's exciting to have the opportunity to compete with these guys in a premier match-play event that fans are really going to love watching. This will be my first time taking part in something like this, so I’m looking forward to putting on a show for the fans."

While Scottie Scheffler has proved his mettle this year with nine wins, McIlroy also won four times, two on the PGA Tour and two on the DP World Tour. Meanwhile, Bryson DeChambeau has had one win at US Open in Pinehurst while Brooks Koepka has had two wins on LIV Golf.
