During the US Women's Open, Charley Hull spoke about how her smoking habit arose from stress, as well as how she got into vaping. Hull said (via Golf.com):

“I was a bit stressed last year and I just kind of vaped. And I wanted to stop vaping, and even though smoking is not better than vaping, it’s just you can vape indoors all the time. I thought if I smoke, I’m going to go outside and smoke a cigarette.”

Hull has been compared to John Daly, who is also known to often smoke cigarettes during tournaments.

"My dad smokes 40 a day since he was 12 years old and now he's 75" - Charley Hull talks about her father's impact on her smoking habit

Charley Hull spoke about how she was first introduced to smoking through her father. She has been spotted smoking on the course, possibly due to the stress of playing in a high-pressure tournament. Speaking about her experience with smoking, Hull said (via Golf Magic):

"Yeah, listen, my dad smokes 40 a day since he was 12 years old and now he's 75, and my nephew smokes who is like 25. My whole family smokes, so it's not something that I've noticed being odd."

She did however emphasize that she was quite healthy and that she went to the gym. Hull also spoke about her disdain for drinking.

"I find it quite funny, because I actually do go to the gym and I'm a very healthy person. I only smoke. I hardly drink. I don't need to drink because actually I can have a fun time without it," she added.

Hull finished T19 at the US Women's Open and T16 at the KPMG Women's PGA Championship.
