Daniel Gavins nailed an incredible hole-in-one at the ongoing Ras Al Khaimah Championship at the Al Hamra Golf Club on Friday. The 33-year-old achieved the feat from 167 yards.
Gavins was hitting the 7 par-3 at the DP World Tour event when he recorded the spectacular hole-in-one. The European league's X account shared the video of the shot, though the caption seemed to give a slightly miscalculated yardage.
Gavins talked about the achievement and the advice his caddie gave him. He said (via DP World Tour):
"My caddie said 'Just hit this as hard as you can.' That's what he said and I did that, straight at the pin."
A hole-in-one is a rare occurrence in a golfer's career. This was the Briton's only second hole-in-one ever, though he couldn't see it due to sunlight.
He continued:
"And I didn't see it go in! This is the second hole-in-one that I've had and I didn't see it go in. I kind of got the nod from the green. There were about four people watching and I heard one clap so I thought 'oh, it must be close'. And then obviously we knew it went in about two minutes later."
He added:
"I just didn't see it with the sunlight. The greens are a really light colour so I kind of saw it going towards the hole and then I didn't know if it had trickled over the back or whether it had gone in."
Daniel Gavins was placed at T55 at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship after Round 2. He carded a score of 1-under. His countryman Marcus Armitage was leading the standings with a score of 12-under.
