David Micheluzzi registered his name in the Guinness World Records for the longest golf putt made in a non-tournament. He made a putt of 139 yards i.e., 127.1 meters, and surpassed the previous record by 15 feet (5 yards).
The Australian player broke the record at the Hero Challenge organized by DP World Tour on November 4th and 5th ahead of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. The putting competition was on the 7th hole at Yas Links Golf Course in Abu Dhabi.
65 players competed at the Hero Challenge including Tommy Fleetwood, Robert MacIntyre, and Justin Rose. While several players saw close misses throughout the day, David Micheluzzi executed the perfect putt just on his second attempt.
DP World Tour posted several clips with different angles of the record-breaking putt in an Instagram post on Saturday, November 30.
"@david_micheluzzi holes a 139-yard putt! Every angle #HeroChallenge"
Micheluzzi seemed confident after hitting the ball and said:
"That's getting there."
As the golf ball got closer to the hole, he shouted:
"Go! Go!"
He celebrated the movement with an uproar. The previous record for the world's longest golf putt in a non-tournament was made by Jay Stocki from 122.3 meters last year at the Baths of Blackwolf Run golf course. He made the record-breaking putt after 237 unsuccessful attempts.
Jack Nicklaus and Nick Price made the longest putt in a Major tournament of 33.5 m and 110 feet. Nicklaus did it at the 1964 Tournament of Champions while Price achieved the feat at the 1992 United States PGA.
