During the press conference of the tournament on Jan. 5, Matsuyama opened up about his performance and also reflected on his victory, saying (via ASAP Sports):

"After the fire we didn't know if we were going to get to play here. We were able to get to play, and play again this year. And then be able to win, this is a tournament that I've always wanted to win, it's a special place here, so definitely happy to have won here."

He even reflected on his desire to win the Sony Open in Hawaii. He said:

"I'm very happy. I wanted to definitely win both tournaments in Hawaii. So I'm very happy to be able to do that."

Following his win last week, Matsuyama has been in good form and also started with a good round at the Sony Hawaii Open this week.
