Jon Rahm made the headlines with an impressive 279-yard shot from a bunker at the 2025 Hero Dubai Desert Classic. The Spanish golfer is competing in this week's DP World Tour event, which began its first round on Thursday, January 16.
During the first round of the event, Rahm made an amazing shot from 279 yards on the par-3 fourth hole of Emirates Golf Club in Dubai. The DP World Tour shared a video on its X (formerly Twitter) account, writing:
"279 yards from the bunker with a wood! What a shot @JonRahmOfficial😮💨"
Jon Rahm settled for a birdie at the hole. He teed off by making two pars before hitting back-to-back birdies on the third and fourth holes. He then made pars on the next two holes but struggled on the par-3 seventh hole and carded a bogey.
At the time of writing, he is tied for 39th place with one under par at the four-day event concluding with the finale on Sunday, January 19.
Jon Rahm reflects on starting his 2025 campaign in Dubai
Jon Rahm is starting his 2025 campaign on the DP World Tour at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic. Ahead of the tournament during the press conference on January 14, Rahm shared his excitement about playing on the golf course. He said (via ASAP Sports):
"I've only played the front nine. So I'm going to get to see the back nine today. So I can't make a full assessment. But fantastic golf course. Obviously I've seen this event on TV many, many times. And, you know, the past schedule, didn't -- or I chose not to come for some of the events in California, right, because some events I played really good at and I really liked."
"You know, the way things have evolved in the last few years, I'm glad that I have this open to come and enjoy this great event. Hopefully do as well as I have so far in Dubai. It's a city that I love. It's a city that is worth coming to, and it's probably -- the great vibe that I have when I come here, the reason I didn't played so well. So I hope I can keep playing really well and win in Dubai" he added.
Last year, Jon Rahm started his campaign at the LIV Golf event in Mayakoba. He played three rounds of 66, 67, and 70 and tied for third place at the event.
He had some impressive outings on the LIV Golf circuit in 2024 and also played in a handful of DP World Tour events, where he had some impressive results, such as a runner-up at the Open de España and solo sixth at the Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters.
However, this year, Rahm started his campaign on the DP World Tour. The LIV Golf season begins its 2025 schedule in February in Saudi Arabia.
