Jon Rahm didn't have the best of starts at the 2024 PGA Championship. In the first round, Valhalla witnessed Rahm throwing away his club at the course in frustration just after a stroke. The 2024 PGA Championship is the second Major of the 2024 season and is being held at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky.

On par-4 16th hole, Rahm threw away his seven-iron club at the Valhalla turf after another one of the many wayward shots in the round on late Thursday afternoon (May 16).

After the incident, one of the broadcasters is heard saying (via NUCLRGOLF):

"Oh, this is not good!"

However, Jon Rahm scored even par on the hole and didn't falter. He further went on to score birdies on par-4 17th and par-5 18th holes. He was able to finish the round with a score of 1-under 70 ranked T47. This isn't the first time, Rahm has thrown away his club.

Rahm didn't have the desired start to the round after he scored four bogeys in his first six holes. In the front nine, Rahm carded 38 with 3 over par.

Jon Rahm also came under criticism after he played both sides in the pre-tournament press conference. Rahm, despite being a member of LIV Golf, stated that he still sees himself as a PGA Tour member.

"You guys keep saying 'the other side,' but I’m still a PGA Tour member, whether suspended or not. I still want to support the PGA Tour. And I think that’s an important distinction to make. I don't feel like I'm on the other side, I’m just not playing there," he said (via PGA Championship).

Rahm's odds of winning the tournament at ESPN Bet fell from +1800 to +5000 after his performance in the first round. Xander Schauffele was at the top of the leaderboard after his bogey-free 9 under 62 and nine birdies. Tony Finau, Sahith Theegala, and Mark Hubbard are tied at T2 with a score of 6 under 65.
