Justin Rose is currently at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club, leading Team Great Britain and Ireland against Continental Europe at the DP World Tour's Team Cup. On Day 2 (January 11) of the tournament, Rose recreated an iconic moment from 2023.
During the morning foursomes, Rose was teamed up with veteran golfer Tommy Fleetwood. On Hole 15, the former sunk in a putt, and was immediately seen pointing towards Fleetwood and his team. It's worth noting that Rose previously celebrated the same way at the 2023 Ryder Cup in Rome.
You can watch Justin Rose's celebration at the 2025 Team Cup and 2023 Ryder Cup below:
On Day 1 of the 2023 Ryder Cup, Justin Rose was part of the fourball match. At that time, Rose sunk in a putt on the 18th hole and made sure Team USA did not win a single point on that day. After sinking in that putt, Rose was seen celebrating the same way by pointing towards his team.
However, his celebration back then was a bit more aggressive as he first punched the air in happiness and then pointed towards his team. The 2023 Ryder Cup all-in-all was a successful campaign for Rose and his teammates as Team Europe managed to win the much coveted Ryder Cup.
Opposing captain Francesco Molinari speaks about the kind of challenge he expects from Justin Rose
At the 2025 Team Cup, Justin Rose will be taking on an experienced captain in Francesco Molinari. While Rose has a considerable amount of experience playing golf at the top level, Molinari won the last edition of the Team Cup and will look to win for the second consecutive time this year.
In a press conference that was held at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club, Molinari was reminded that Rose is someone who played under many influential captains and has been a part of six Ryder Cup campaigns. Molinari was asked what kind of a challenge he expects from his opposing captain.
The Italian golfer answered:
"Yeah, we are expecting a very tough challenge and really strong team. I'm sure Justin is going to do a really good job. He's a meticulous player and I'm sure he's going to have the same approach when it comes down to his captaincy. Yeah, we are going to be ready for the challenge and hopefully it's going to be three days of great golf."
At the 2025 Team Cup, golf fans will see Justin Rose in a captaincy role for the first time in his career. During an interview before the Team Cup, Rose spoke about being captain of Team Great Britain and Ireland. Rose mentioned it's an honor to be captain. He said (via European Tour.com):
"It's a honour, first and foremost. I think it's been something that's sort of been on my mind. Sometimes you play as a player and you're obviously preparing all the time for tournaments that come up. "But when you have something like this looming large, you start thinking about it months in advance: what do I want to say? Are there any good ideas I have? What have I learned from previous captains?"
Rose further added that captainship at the Team Cup has been a big responsibility in his mind for the last few months. The British golfer also confirmed that while he is out of his comfort zone, he feels it's good to challenge himself.
