Justin Thomas won his first TGL game with the Atlanta Drive in 2025, and shortly after his win, the American golfer earned praise for his heartfelt gesture toward a fan attending the event. The Atlanta Drive played their first match on Tuesday, January 21, and clinched a win against the New York Golf Club with a score of 4-0.
Shortly after the match, TGL’s X (formerly Twitter) handle shared a video of Justin Thomas giving a TGL flag to a young boy at the SoFi Center, which made the boy’s day. The video was captioned:
“This kid's day is made!”
Following this, Thomas' TGL team, Atlanta Drive, will play against the Los Angeles Golf Club on February 17 at 1 p.m. EST, followed by a match against the Bay Golf Club on the same day at 4 p.m. EST.
Thomas' team will then face Boston Common Golf on February 24 at 9 pm EST and Jupiter Links on March 4 at 7 pm EST.
Besides his participation in TGL, Justin Thomas played the Sentry Tournament and the American Express on the 2025 PGA Tour roster.
The American finished at T26 at the Kapalua Resort with a score of 19 under 273 and landed at T2 at the Pete Dye Stadium Course with a score of 23 under 265.
Justin Thomas talked about his winning experience at the TGL venue
Speaking to the media after his win, Justin Thomas explained how the game looked easy with the team's positive momentum. Highlighting how his teammates complemented each other's playstyle, Thomas said:
“I think anything is more fun when you're winning, so we made it very easy on ourselves, and I think we complemented each other's games well. I mean, it's obviously a tough adjustment for any of us and all teams playing, but we somehow found a way to hit fairways and greens and made a couple putts,” Justin Thomas said ( via ASAP Sports).
Giving his take on how the league could be an exciting gateway for new golf fans and golf enthusiasts alike, Thomas addressed a question on whether a similar fast-paced style could be adapted on the PGA Tour, saying:
“Look, there definitely could be some things here and there that are done, but it's also -- I think there's, like, a Fan Forward survey that the TOUR does with fans. They like harder golf courses, they like watching us play difficult places but they want us to play faster, so those two don't go together. You've kind of got to pick and choose your battles. But yeah, I guess we'll see. I'm sure we're all hopeful, but at the end of the day it's like, what are we trying to accomplish. You know what I'm saying?”
The 31-year-old finished his first TGL match by winning his singles match against Cameron Young. His team Atlanta Drive won their Triples games against New York Golf Club to wrap up a clean sweep.
