Larry Mize played the Masters for the last time on Saturday as the veteran bowed out of Augusta National on Saturday after failing to make a cut. Mize was embraced by Sandy Lyle once he finished the 18th green of the second round.
It was also the last Masters tournament for Lyle as well, who became the champion here in 1987.
Mize's playing partners Harrison Crowe and and Min Woo Lee let the 1987 Masters Champion walk on the 18th green alone as a mark of respect.
Mize acknowledged Lyle in the post-round interview. He said:
"Yeah, that was very special for Sandy to come out and just greet me there because it's Sandy's a good friend, a great champion, and to finish off with him, it's pretty cool."
Mize called his 40 years of playing experience at Augusta National incredible.
"You know, it's just, uh, it's just unbelievable, surreal, " said 1987 Champion. "You know, words, words don't do it justice to have one here and played here for 40 years. Pretty incredible. I mean, the fans were great, and if you get a reception like that and then weather like this, I didn't expect that. I didn't expect that at all."
Here's a look at how golf Twitter reacted on Mize's last day as a player at the Masters.
"I'm speechless"
"Still say Larry made the greatest shot EVER."
"The moment with Sandy 😥😥😥"
The 64-year-old golfer posted scores of 79 and 80 in the first two rounds of the 2023 Masters to finish his last outing at Augusta National at 15 over. Lyle, on the other hand, carded 81 and 83 over two days to end at 20 over.
