Pro golfer Lexi Thompson celebrated the 36th birthday of fellow golfer Rickie Fowler in a video posted on Instagram by LPGA Tour on Friday. Thompson and Fowler are competing in the Grant Thornton Invitational.
In the video posted by LPGA Tour on Instagram, Lexi is seen sporting a white and dark blue outfit with matching white trainers. She took the orange-colored birthday cake and handed it over to Rickie.
The crowd was chanting "Happy Birthday To Dear Rickie". Fowler took the birthday cake from a smiling Thompson. LPGA Tour posted the reel on Instagram and captioned it:
"A big birthday celebration on the first tee"
Here's the video:
Fowler sported a white Puma tee and matching blue trousers with his teammate. With a smile, he blew out the candles, which were already out due to the strong winds. Seeing that, Thompson almost rolled on the floor with laughter. As he accepted the cake from Lexi Thompson, the crowd at the course clapped in celebration.
This video has received many likes and views as fans shared their thoughts. While some congratulated Rickie Fowler, a few had other thoughts.
"Hau'oli La Hanau to a kid from Temecula", someone wished.
"HBD @rickiefowler", @grantthortoninv said.
"A little more enthusiasm from the birthday boy would've been nice.", a fan pointed out.
"Gonna miss you Lexi.", another one admitted.
Will Lexi Thompson retire after participating in the Grant Thornton Invitational?
This weekend marked the start of one of the most unique golf tournaments. The Grant Thornton Invitational started on Friday, December 13, 2024.
With a prize money of $4 million, golfers will be racing for the top prize. Six teams will be there, with each team comprising a an LPGA and PGA golfer. Lexi Thompson is one of the popular stars to participate in this challenge.
Earlier in 2024 at the US Women's Open, she declared that "it is time to step away from a full-time schedule". According to LPGA.com, she said:
“There’s more things to life than going to a tournament every week and doing the same training every day. There’s just more to it, and I’m looking forward to experiencing that. I feel like I’m very content with where my life is and where this decision will lead me to. I’m just looking forward to what life has in store other than golf.”
Rickie Fowler and Lexi Thompson will tee off against 15 other contestants. They face Lydia Ko and Jason Day, the defending champions of the Grant Thornton Invitational. The 11-time LPGA Tour winner will play the last tournament of her 14-year-long career at the Tiburón Golf Club of Naples, Florida.
