WATCH: LIV Golf captains pick their opponents for Team Quarterfinals in Dallas

The final tournament of the LIV Golf Tour will be held from September 20 to September 22 at the Maridoe Golf Club in Dallas, Texas. 13 teams will compete in the tournament, with the top three teams on the LIV Tour, namely, Crushers GC, Legion XIII and Ripper GC advancing directly to the semifinals.

The remaining ten teams chose their opponents for the first round on Thursday. A video of the remaining LIV Golf captains picking their quarterfinal opponents was shared on X.

Smash GC captain Brooks Koepka picked Ironheads GC. When asked about his choice, he said (via LIVRandOnions):

"Just went for the bottom up, I think that's the way we did it. It just felt like we got a good chance, so we'll see what happens."

Iron Heads GC captain Kevin Na was asked about the matchup and he said:

"Yeah, but it all comes down to match play. Danny, my coach, works with Jason Kokrak, so we've been bribing him."

Torquay GC captain Joaquin Niemann picked High Flyers GC. Niemann said that it wasn't an easy choice but he always wanted to play against Phil Mickelson. The 54-year-old Mickelson when asked about the matchup said:

"Our team is looking forward to the challenge, and we haven't had the year that we wanted to this year, and this is an opportunity for us to showcase what we're able to do against one of the really strong teams in the league."

What are three other matchups in the LIV Golf Team Championship?

The LIV Golf Team Championship has a total purse of $50 million. The team emerging victorious at the tournament will take home $14 million. The tournament will be held from Friday, September 20 to 22 at Maridoe Golf Club.

LIV Golf captains picked their opponent team for the quarterfinals on Thursday. Fireballs GC Captain Sergio Garcia picked Majestics GC. When asked about his choice, Garcia said:

"Well, I felt like our matchup was good against them. Obviously, we played them last year, so we know what's going on there. And I don't know. Everyone else seemed like maybe a little bit – it wasn't like the easiest choice, but they were all good teams left on the roster, and I guess we go from what happened last year, so hopefully we'll be able to repeat."

Cleeks GC star Henrik Stenson warned Fireballs GC and said that they've made a bad choice.

Stinger GC captain Louis Oosthuizen was the last captain to pick the opponent. He picked Cleeks GC. Talking about his choice, he joked:

"Yeah, I mean, I saw Martin run 100 meters earlier this week, and I think we can beat that."

Cleeks' GC captain Martin Kaymer said that it'll be a tough match against South Africans. He acknowledged the talent and success of his opponent. However, he said that the team is in good spirits and confidence. He further highlighted that the team has already emerged victorious in one of the tournaments (LIV Golf Houston). Kaymer said that he's optimistic about the matchup.

The two teams remaining RangeGoats GC and 4 Aces GC therefore will face each other in the quarterfinals. Talking about the matchup against 4Aces GC, Bubba Watson said:

"Yeah, it's a phenomenal team we're playing against. The Aces are unbelievable. Nobody wanted to pick them, obviously. And so it's going to be a tough matchup. But, obviously, I think it's going to be made for TV. I mean, it's a perfect pairing."

Meanwhile, 4 Aces GC captain, Dustin Johnson acknowledged that they've not had the best of years in 2024. However, he reminded that they were number coming to the finals in the last two years. He said that his team was still strong and that they'd be tough to beat in the matchplay.
