Patrick Cantlay is currently competing at The 2024 Open Championship, and has enjoyed a decent start to his campaign at the final major of the year. He is one over after 11 holes and could be in contention for the first major win of his career.

Cantlay carded an impressive birdie from the bunker on the postage stamp hole during his first round. His tee shot ended up in the right greenside pot bunker, one of the most challenging on the course. But Patrick Cantlay managed to get the ball into the hole from the bunker and made a birdie.

Getting onto the green from the bunker is one of the most challenging things on this hole. Rory McIlroy carded a double bogey from the same spot as he failed to reach the green in a single shot. However, Cantlay showcased his prowess as he landed the ball in the perfect spot and allowed the slope to take the ball inside the cup.

He is one of the few golfers with a birdie on the postage stamp hole, the shortest but one of the most complicated holes at the Royal Troon Golf Club.

How has Patrick Cantlay fared in 2024?

Patrick Cantlay has had a rather average 2024 so far. He has only missed the cut once in 15 events, but hasn't been able to register a victory or be in contention this season.

Cantlay's last two performances showcase that he is getting back into his zone, as he finished T3 at the 2024 US Open and T5 at the Travelers Championship. He has also started off his campaign at The 2024 Open in decent fashion, and will hope to continue his form over the coming days.

Justin Thomas leads the event as of this writing with a score of -3. But we can expect some changes to the leaderboard as several golfers are yet to complete their first round, including Patrick Cantlay.
