Peter Malnati's childlike reaction to seeing a plane flying overhead caught people's attention this week. The American golfer is gearing up to compete at the 2024 BMW PGA Championship, a DP World Tour event. Although the tournament will start on Thursday, September 19, players have already arrived in London to begin their preparations.
During a practice round on September 17, Malnati looked up in awe at the plane, surprised and excited. He hurriedly took pictures and suggested it might be the large-body airliner, the Airbus A380. Upon seeing the plane, Malnati quickly said:
"That sounds like a big one! .....Look, sweet, it's an A380. That's an A380. You can't tell so much from here, but you can see the four engines, and it's a double-decker!"
The Airbus A380 is the only full-length double-decker plane. It has a very large, wide body and is manufactured by Airbus. Its primary operators are Emirates, British Airways, Singapore Airlines, and Qantas.

It is the first DP World Tour event of 2024 for Peter Malnati. So far, he has only competed in PGA Tour events this year. The 37-year-old golfer began his campaign this season at the Sony Open in Hawaii but missed the cut. In fact, he had a rough start to the season, missing the cut in the first three events he played, but finally finished T14 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. However, he again missed the cut in the very next event at the WM Phoenix Open.
This season has been a rollercoaster ride for the two-time PGA Tour winner. He has had some rough outings but also broke his eight-year winless streak on the PGA Tour by winning the 2024 Valspar Championship. He has only won one event this season and recorded one top-10 finish. Malnati last competed at the St. Jude Championship, finishing in the T59 position.
