President-elect Donald Trump recently played a round of golf alongside VP-elect JD Vance. The duo was accompanied by Missouri Senator Eric Schmitt, who made several posts about their game on X. In one of the posts, Trump was seen hitting it far on the range.
On Thursday, January 2, Schmitt shared a clip of Donald Trump showing his golf swing. With this post, the Missouri senator also tried to clarify that Trump is quite a skilled golfer, unlike what his critics believe.
"I tell people all the time Donald Trump can play," he wrote. "He’s good. For real."
Schmitt also shared a clip of him swinging the club while Vance and Trump looked on at his drive.
For the uninitiated, Trump has been an avid golf lover and is often spotted hitting the range in his leisure time. However, he has been accused of cheating during his game and winning the club senior championships through dishonest means.
President-elect Donald Trump meets PGA Tour Commissioner and LIV Golf chief separately
A couple of months ago, Donald Trump played a round of golf with PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida. The Tour later confirmed this in its official release.
"President-Elect Trump has always been a champion of the game of golf and Commissioner Monahan was honored to accept his invitation to play at Trump International, PGA Tour said, as per Associated Press. "The President-Elect and the Commissioner share a love for the game and the Commissioner enjoyed their time together."
The following day, the President-elect watched a UFC heavyweight championship in New York with PIF Governor Yasir al-Rumayyan and Elon Musk. This move was seen as a step toward mending ties between the two rival circuits.
For the uninitiated, the PGA Tour and PIF announced an agreement in June 2023 but have not been on the same page since then. There have been disagreements, and negotiations are still ongoing.
Rory McIlroy had also hoped that the LIV Golf-PGA Tour deal would come to fruition after Trump took office.
"He’s got Elon Musk, who I think is the smartest man in the world, beside him," he said recently. "We might be able to do something if we can get Musk involved, too."
However, for now, both circuits have separate schedules. While the PGA Tour begins its season with the Sentry this week, LIV will kick off its fourth season in February.
