While the fairway takes a backseat this week, Rory McIlroy was spotted watching the All-American semi-final of the 2024 US Open between Frances Tiafoe and Taylor Fritz on Friday, September 6. The Northern Irish golfer capped off his regular PGA Tour season at the Tour Championship, which concluded on September 1. Current World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler took home the prestigious trophy along with $25 million in prize money.
As there is no tournament on McIlroy's schedule this week, he took a rare break to enjoy a tennis match where Fritz beat Tiafoe in five sets and set up a final meeting with Italy's Jannik Sinner.
Rory McIlroy watched the US Open semi-final at Arthur Ashe Stadium. US Open Tennis uploaded a video of him watching the match with all seriousness on X (formerly Twitter).

Rory McIlroy has had quite a busy schedule in 2024. He competed for three back-to-back weeks for the FedEx Cup playoffs. Balancing highs and lows, he was tied for 68th place at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, the first playoff event, in a field of only 70 players.
He shot 68 in the first round to give himself momentum but the next three rounds posed difficulties, with him shooting 73, 74, and 74, finally settling for over-par nine and taking the T68 spot at the St. Jude Championship.
Recovering from the poor performance, he found a rhythm with some notable finishes at the BMW Championship, tied for 11th, and then finishing T9 at the Tour Championship.
What is next for Rory McIlroy?
After a steady PGA Tour season, winning two events and securing seven top-10 finishes, Rory McIlroy will next turn his attention towards the DP World Tour events. He started off his 2024 season on the European Tour with a victory at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, and once again will return to the home circuit.
As per his official website, the Holywood-born star golfer will travel to his home country Northern Ireland for his next golf outing at the Amgen Irish Open. The tournament will take place at Royal County Down GC in Newcastle from September 12 to 15.
Rory McIlroy will then set his eyes on the BMW PGA Championship, a tournament that he won in 2014 by defeating fellow countryman Shane Lowry. From Northern Ireland, he will travel to England for this four-day event, which will take place from September 19 to 22 at Wentworth Club in Virginia Water.
McIlroy will be in Europe until the first week of October, as he is also slated to compete at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, scheduled from October 2 to 6 at the prestigious St Andrews Golf Course in Scotland.
Fans will see McIlroy playing in four DP World Tour events to conclude the year. After his European outing, he will travel to Dubai for the DP World Championship at Jumeirah Golf Estates, which will take place from November 14 to 17.
As part of the year-end plans, McIlroy will join Scottie Scheffler for the highly anticipated The Match. They will team up to play against LIV rivals Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka for the exclusive made-for-TV event in mid-December.
