Rory McIlroy's TGL team, Boston Common Golf, has set up a training center at Fenway Park for players to practice their swings and prepare for the highly-anticipated golf league. McIlroy, in collaboration with Tiger Woods and sports executive Mike McCarley, initiated TGL.
The league was originally scheduled to start in January 2024, but due to the collapse of the stadium dome where the tournament was to be held, it was postponed to 2025.
Despite the delay, the teams have already begun their preparations. Boston Common Golf has installed an experience trailer at Fenway Park and shared a video on its social media account. The training center features a high-tech practice setup, specifically designed to align with the Boston Common Golf team’s theme.
Outside the area, posters of all four team players are displayed, along with frog imprints at the entrance of the venue. Sharing the video on X (formerly Twitter), they wrote:
"From swings off the Monster to swings under the Monster."
Boston Common Golf comprises four players: Rory McIlroy, Keegan Bradley, Adam Scott, and Hideki Matsuyama. Interestingly, McIlroy and Matsuyama recently competed in the men’s golf event at the Paris Olympics, where the latter won the bronze medal for Japan. Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy delivered a strong performance, finishing tied for fifth place.
Rory McIlroy’s TGL lands key deal with Businessolver
Rory McIlroy's and Tiger Woods' new golf tech initiative, TGL, has secured a new funding partner. They have recently signed a deal with Businessolver. The deal was confirmed at a press conference, and Businessolver President and CEO Jon Shanahan released a statement about the agreement. He said (via MarketWatch):
"As we continue to invest in our strategic partnerships, the opportunity to be a Founding Partner of TGL presented by SoFi enhances our ability to deliver collaborative innovation, community outreach, and cultivate a culture of empathy with our partners and clients-alike.
"Innovation is at the core of what we do and guides us in our pursuit of excellence for ourselves, our partners, and our people. We see the same in TGL, its teams of world-class golfers, and its technology that we anticipate will delight sports fans this winter when it launched," he added.
Notably, TGL consists of six teams of four players each and is expected to begin its first season in January 2025. In addition to Rory McIlroy's Boston Common Golf, other teams in the series include Atlanta Drive, Jupiter Links Golf Club, Los Angeles Golf Club, New York Golf Club, and The Bay Golf Club.
Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy is preparing for the FedEx Cup playoffs as the PGA Tour season nears its conclusion. McIlroy has missed this week's Wyndham Championship and is likely to compete at the FedEx Cup St. Jude Championship next week.
