Sergio Garcia's Fireballs GC has signed the talented youngster Luis Masaveu for the upcoming LIV Golf season. The team recently posted a video of the 22-year-old greeting the fans.
Masaveu spoke in Spanish but the captions have been translated in English. He said:
"Hey there! I am Luis Masaveu, the newest Fireballs GC player for 2025. I can't wait to kickoff this year and win big with this team. See you out on the golf course!"
Luis Masaveu was the first Spanish amateur to make the cut at The Open Championship last year. He also won the low-amatuer honors at the Spanish Open in 2022 and 2024. The 16th ranked amatuer in the world placed T9 at the Asian Tour's International series in Qatar after turning pro. He also made the cut at Saudi International.
Masaveu has replaced Eugenio Chacarra in the Fireballs GC. The latter had joined LIV Golf in it's debut season as the World No. 2 amatuer in 2022.
Did Luis Masaveu play at the LIV Golf Promotions event?
Luis Masaveu had been hoping to play in LIV Golf since a while. He had played in the Promotions event in December aiming to qualify for the Saudi-backed league. However, he couldn't win the tournament.
The young golfer had spoken about the prospect of LIV Golf in an interview with AS.com last year. He said that he hadn't been "lucky" to qualify for the breakaway league but it was still a goal for him.
"I like to compete. My dream is to be number one in the world and some of the best are there (Playing in the LIV Golf league), you compete against them and you also have the economic bonus which always comes in handy. I would definitely consider it (to go to LIV)."
He further added that he considered the PGA Tour, DP World Tour and LIV Golf to be the three biggest leagues and he wanted to played on "one of the three big tours".
"Yes, I wouldn't have minded. In the end, playing on one of the three big tours is what you want to do. Playing the PGA, the DP World Tour or the LIV, which are the three where the level is the highest and where in the end you feel like you're competing against the best,"
Masaveu is the latest young player to join LIV Golf after 22-year-old Yubin Jang and 25-year-old Frederik Kjettrup.
