WATCH: The University of Illinois golf teams' top-notch practice facilities

The University of Illinois has produced several notable top golfers such as Steve Stricker, Thomas Pieters, Thomas Detry among others. The college offers top-notch practice facilites to students.

Home matches featuring the University of Illinois are held at the Atkins Golf Club. The college also boasts of a massive indoor and a 24-acre outdoor golf practice facility. It was designed by head coach Mike Small, alumni Steve Stricker, and golf course architect Jeff Brauer. The course design was inspired from the home of Masters, Augusta National.

The golf practice facilities feature:

• - 24-acre practice area
• - Based on Augusta’s practice range
• - Six heated indoor hitting bays
• - 15,000 sqft indoor facility
• - 7,000 sqft indoor green
• - TV Lounge
• - Club workshop

The post from Golf Digest also made it clear that these facilities are only available to the men's and women's golf teams of the university.

The outdoor course is adjacent to the indoor practice area.

University of Illinois to host the 2025 NCAA Regional

The University of Illinois will be hosting the 2025 NCAA Regionals at the Atkins Golf Club from May 12th to 14th, 2025.

Head coach Mike Small was "thrilled" by this news as he said in the press release:

"We are thrilled to be selected to bring an NCAA Regional to the Urbana-Champaign community this spring. It is a tremendous honor to host, and we are grateful to be in a position to welcome peers from around the country to our home at Atkins Golf Club at the University of Illinois."

He further added:

"This is an incredible opportunity to not only share our world-class facilities, but to showcase the unmatched passion and support of the Fighting Illini fanbase. Our program prides itself on our tradition of excellence in the postseason, and we can't wait for the opportunity to compete on that stage, in front of the best fans in college golf."

The Atkins Golf Club underwent renovations led by architect Drew Rogers. The course reoponed in 2022 and has already hosted Fighting Illini Spring Collegiate in 2023 and 2024.
