In February this year, golf legend Tiger Woods announced his new training gear collection, 'Sun Day Red,' in collaboration with equipment giant TaylorMade. While the line already features apparel and accessories for men and women, the brand has recently hinted at a new shoe release.
The short teaser posted on social media showed a silhouette of a shoe on the signature red backdrop. The video also included clips of the sole bearing the unique logo and the words 'Sun Day Red'. As per the teaser, the new shoes will drop on 4th December 2024.
Red is a color associated with Tiger Woods as he wore it to most of his tournaments, especially on Sundays when the final rounds are played. So, the name of his new apparel line seemed like an ode to his illustrious legacy.
However, it deviated from the signature TW logo that Nike had especially launched for the star. The company eventually removed the emblem from all its shoes after parting ways with Woods. Sun Day Red's logo symbolizes a tiger.
After its announcement early this year, the 15-time major champion spoke about his creative endeavor. (via The Economic Times)
"I have learned so much over the years and have a lifetime of experience adjusting my apparel and footwear to help me play better based on the way it was constructed. There are things that I could tell you that no one knew I was doing over the years. I'm ready to share those secrets with the world,"
He further added in the press release:
"Sun Day Red will embody a love of playing and competing, and we are for people that share those values, whether it's on the course, or in life. We will be anchored to putting the athlete first in the product decisions we make,"
The brand was launched in North America on 1st May 2024.
"I wear red on Sundays because my mom thinks that is my power color" - Tiger Woods
US golfer Tiger Woods is one of the most prominent faces in golf. And apart from his spectacular success in the sport, he is known for his love for the color red. Most golf tournaments held their final rounds on Sundays, and Woods was renowned for wearing the color when victories were close.
It was a superstition that he subscribed to early on in his career and stuck with it. Being a Stanford student only helped as the university's uniform color too is red. Woods said, according to Bunkered:
"I’ve worn red ever since my college days basically, or junior golf days — big events on the last day. I just stuck with it out of superstition, and it worked. I just happened to choose a school that actually was red, and we wore red on our final day of events. So it worked out,"
However, it was his mother who believed red was his power color.
"I wear red on Sundays because my mom thinks that is my power color. You know, you should always listen to your mom,"
The 82-time PGA Tour title holder reiterated the statement during the launch of his new clothing brand, Sun Day Red.
"Sunday red - it’s me. It started with mom. She thought being a Capricorn that my power color was red, so I wore red as a junior golfer and I won some tournaments,"
Tiger Woods had worn red even during his historic fifth Masters win in 2019 when he ended his 11-year drought.
