WATCH: Tiger Woods nearly scores an eagle on hole 8 at Masters 2023

The Masters - Round One
Tiger Woods during the first round of 2023 Masters

Tiger Woods showed glimpses of his vintage self when he nearly scored an eagle on the par-5, 570-yard 8th hole during the first round of the 2023 Masters, going on at Augusta National.

Tiger played his third shot from the slope and nearly holed the ball for the eagle. The ball traveled close to the hole before drifting slightly away from it.

Commentators termed it the 'first Tiger highlight of the day.'

Returning to the golf course after a two-month break, Tiger Woods looked a little rusty in the beginning and so far has been underwhelming with the performance. After playing 13 holes, he's made just one birdie and has holed four bogeys to be at 3 over with five holes to go.

While Tiger has not been up to the mark at the Masters, Viktor Hovland is the one who seems to be stealing the limelight on Day 1 at the Augusta National. The young star from Norway has been bogey-free till now and has already made five birdies and an Eagle with 4 holes to go in Round 1. (at the time of writing)

LIV Golf's Brooks Koepka is in second position at 4-under after eight holes. He has posted 4 birdies already. Koepka is coming to Augusta National after securing a win at LIV Golf Orlando.

Jon Rahm is at 3-under, sitting at T-3 for 11 holes. The Spaniard started with a double bogey on the first but has looked in form since then and has carded three birdies and an eagle after 11 holes.

1992 Masters Champion Fred Couples completed his first round at just under par. He started slowly with two bogeys after 11 holes but later found his rhythm back with four birdies in the 12-17 hole stretch.
