Steve Williams was one of Tiger Woods' most trusted caddies. Williams and Woods teamed up between 1999 and 2011, the golfer's longest such collaboration, and when their time together began, Williams had been in the game for more than 20 years.

Still, it fell to Steve Williams to star in one of the funniest anecdotes involving a caddie on the PGA Tour. The New Zealand caddie's mistake was so rookie-like that Tiger Woods himself could only laugh, despite the seriousness of the moment.

It happened on the 7th hole of the Palmer Course at The K Club, where the 2006 Ryder Cup was played. Steve Williams was cleaning Tiger Woods' 9-iron when he slipped awkwardly next to a water hazard and the club fell into the water.

You can watch the video below:

While Tiger Woods was visibly amused, Williams seemed momentarily flustered before joining in the laughter. The spot where the club fell was so deep that a diver had to retrieve it. Tiger Woods was able to retrieve his 9-iron on the 15th hole.

Woods scored three points in five matches during the 2006 Ryder Cup. He won three matches, including the singles match against Robert Karlsson, and lost two.

A look at the career of Tiger Woods' former caddie, Steve Williams

Dropping Tiger Woods' club in the water was a bad moment for Steve Williams, but it did not affect his status as one of the best caddies on the PGA Tour. For more than 40 years, top players maintained an interest in his services.

Like most caddies, Williams began his relationship with golf as a player, and by age 13 he had lowered his handicap to 2. Even at that young age, however, he realized that he liked being a caddie more than he liked being a player.

His first job in the business was carrying the bag for 5-time major champion Peter Thomson at the 1976 New Zealand Open, when only 13 years old. Such was his passion for the business that in 1979 he decided to leave school and travel to Europe to become a caddie on the European Tour.

Williams quickly became a sought-after caddie, working for several top players before working for Greg Norman from 1982 until 1989. After his stint with Norman, he caddied for four-time major champion Raymond Floyd.

Floyd and Williams teamed up for 10 years until 1999, when the caddie moved on to work with Tiger Woods. After Woods, Williams has had no shortage of work with top players, having carried the bags of Adam Scott and Jason Day.
