WATCH: Xander Schauffele finds himself in difficult tree spot, attempts an 'unplayable ball' at Zozo Championship

Xander Schauffele is currently competing in the 2024 Zozo Championship at the Accordia Golf Narashino Country Club in Japan. Schauffele had a disappointing start to the event as he carded +3 and is placed at T70.

He had a decent start to his campaign as he remained bogey-free through eight holes. However, his performance derailed on the 9th hole where he found himself in a difficult spot among tree roots. He tried his best to get the ball back in the fairway but unfortunately couldn't make a connection with the ball.

Schauffele tried to get the ball out twice and wasted two shots. However, his caddie advised him to take an unplayable and said:

"I mean, already the damage is done, but you can't keep hitting it right there."

Schauffele laughed it off and agreed to take an unplayable. He eventually managed to finish the par-4 hole in eight strokes and was +4 after the front nine. The two-time Major championship winner would have looked to make a comeback on the back nine but carded just one birdie to finish +3 after day one.

However, there is some good news for the 30-year-old golfer as there is no cutline for the 2024 Zozo Championship. Hence, all golfers will get a chance to compete in four rounds.
