“We ate” – Collin Morikawa makes dominant statement after the US Team’s runaway lead at the Presidents Cup 

Collin Morikawa is competing in the 2024 Presidents Cup. On Day 1, five fourball matches were held. Morikawa was paired with Sahith Theegala for his fourball match. They went against International Team's Min Woo Lee and veteran Adam Scott at the Royal Montreal Golf Club in Montreal, Quebec.

Morikawa and Theegala won the match by 1 up against Lee and Scott giving the US team a crucial one point. After the match, Morikawa shared pictures from Day 1 of the Presidents Cup on his Instagram and captioned it:

"Chef cooked. We ate. (US flag)," Morikawa wrote.

The US team started well with a birdie on the first hole by Morikawa. However, the International team bounced back and tied the scores on the fourth hole. Lee's birdie on the par-5 sixth hole gave them the lead. The international team held the lead till the 11th hole despite Morikawa's birdie on the seventh as it was followed by Adam Scott's birdie on the eighth.

However, two birdies by Morikawa on the 12th and 14th holes changed the momentum in the favor of the US team, who then maintained the lead till the 18th lead to win by 1 up. Assessing his match with Theegala, Collin Morikawa said (via ASAP Sports):

"We got the point. We grinded, and we worked our butt off, and we really came through on that back nine and started hitting some better shots. We started giving ourselves two birdie looks, and that's the most important thing in this format is giving yourself opportunities, both of us, and not playing 1 vs. 2," he said.

"The definition of clutch right there is what Sahith did. I'm very, very happy to come out with a win on that one," he added.

Collin Morikawa says that he vibes 'really well' with Sahith Theegala as they have known each other since childhood

Collin Morikawa and Sahith Theegala won their four-ball match against Min Woo Lee and Adam Scott on Thursday, September 26. While Morikawa is playing his second Presidents Cup, Theegala is playing in his maiden tournament.

After the match, in the conference, Morikawa was asked how he and Theegala paired so well. Morikawa said (via ASAP Sports):

"Look, we've known each other since we've been 8, 9 years old. We've been playing golf our entire life pretty much with Sahith right here. I didn't realize his name was Sahith until he turned pro, so that's kind of awkward. Look, I think we just vibe really well," Morikawa said.

"We kind of play -- I wouldn't say the same style of game, but we're very- our mental games are somewhat similar, and I think we just never give up. I know he's never out of the hole wherever he hits it, and I love that having that as a partner. This guy can make par or birdies from anywhere. That's who I want by my side," he added.

Collin Morikawa and Sahith Theegala will pair again for the foursome match against Adam Scott and Taylor Pendrith. The matchups for Friday, Sept. 27 with time at the 2024 Presidents Cup are as follows (all times ET):
