Justin Thomas detailed the special relationship he shares with rival PGA Tour player Max Homa. During the final round of last week’s BMW Championship, Thomas and Homa were paired together.

Following the event, Thomas was asked in a press conference about his round with Homa. In response, Thomas stated that he shares a special bond with Homa, and that they call each other "accountabilibuddies."

Thomas said (via PGA Tour on X):

"Max and I have always been close but we've somehow become closer, and I think we're kind of- we call each other kind of "accountabilibuddies." We feel like we say stuff to each other that maybe other guys wouldn't say because we're competitors and we're trying to beat each other, but....we're very similar and we both want what's best for each other. It's fun playing together on Sunday, just not the second group off."

The final round of the 2024 BMW Championship concluded on Sunday, August 25, at Castle Pines Golf Club. The tournament featured only the top 50 players in the FedEx Cup standings.

Max Homa and Justin Thomas both had mixed results at the FedEx Cup playoffs event. After struggling in the first three rounds of the BMW Championship, Homa performed well on Sunday, August 25, shooting a 67 in the final round to finish tied for 33rd.

Meanwhile, Thomas also had a rough start, with rounds of 76, 72, and 74, but improved in the final round, shooting a 68 to finish tied for 39th. Keegan Bradley won the 2024 BMW Championship with a one-stroke victory over Sam Burns, Ludvig Åberg, and Adam Scott.

Did Justin Thomas and Max Homa qualify for the Tour Championship?

The 2024 BMW Championship was the final opportunity for players to secure their spots in the FedEx Cup final playoff event, the Tour Championship. Only the top 30 in the standings qualified for this week's event. While Justin Thomas narrowly secured a spot, Max Homa did not qualify for the Tour Championship.

Thomas entered the BMW Championship ranked 22nd in the standings, within the top 30. Despite struggling with his game and slipping to 30th place, he still managed to qualify for the Tour Championship. In contrast, Max Homa, who was ranked 43rd in the FedEx Cup standings before the BMW Championship, struggled during the tournament and fell to 46th, missing the Tour Championship.

The Tour Championship is the final event of the FedEx Cup playoffs, and some top-ranked players, including Jason Day, Matt Fitzpatrick, Si Woo Kim, and Brian Harman, will not compete. After the BMW Championship, Chris Kirk, Tommy Fleetwood, and Keegan Bradley entered the top 30. Meanwhile, Brian Harman, Jason Day, and Denny McCarthy, who were in the top 30 before the BMW Championship, dropped out and will miss the Tour Championship.

Keegan Bradley made the most significant move in the standings. He entered the BMW Championship ranked 50th but, with a remarkable performance and a win at the event, earned 2,000 FedEx Cup points and moved up to 4th in the standings.

The 2024 Tour Championship will take place from August 29 to September 1 at East Lake Golf Club.
