On Monday, July 8, the PGA of America appointed Keegan Bradley as the new US captain for the upcoming Ryder Cup. The 45th edition of the biennial event will take place at Bethpage, New York, in September next year.

On Tuesday, July 9, Keegan Bradley discussed about his vision for the upcoming biennial event. He was quoted as saying via Sports Illustrated:

"I'm going to have the 12 best players on the team. I don’t care where they play. We have a mission to win this tournament. I’m not worried about the LIV stuff. By the time we get to Bethpage in 2025, we have no clue how the layout is going to be."

Fans online were excited about Keegan Bradley's approach and felt he was thinking logically. Here's a look at some of the reactions:

"Now we have someone talking sense," one fan wrote.

"Glad to hear no LIV filter. Though it won't be the "12 best" per se, unless he picks numbers 7-12 in points with his Captain's Picks. Even Stricker didn't take the "12 best", if that's the right thing to call the top 12 in points. He took #14 instead of #11.," another fan posted.

"Doesn't mean squat right now, a year away, see how it all plays out. He will get to choose 6 players that don't auto qualify, hope he doesn't fall prey to the pressures to not include LIV if there are deserving LIV players," one fan commented.
"This is the correct take but I’m seeing many people act like “lack of LIV players” is the reason we lost last year. We had the way better team and pretty good picks and we just underperformed," another user opined.

"It should be the 12 best players that really "want" to be there. I don't want anyone on the team because they feel it's an obligation. Play because you bleed the red, white and blue," this user posted.
"JT, Speith and Rickie shouldn’t expect a call" another user wrote.

Keegan Bradley declines the possibility of Phil Mickelson being US Ryder Cup vice-captain

The US Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley has dismissed the possibility of Phil Mickelson being his deputy at Bethpage. However, he hopes the veteran will become captain someday.

Phil Mickelson, a 12-time Ryder Cup participant, served as vice-captain in 2016. He was expected to lead the US team in future editions, but circumstances have changed since he joined the LIV Golf.

On Tuesday, Bradley said he still maintained a great relationship with the six-time Major champion but didn't believe he would accept the vice-captaincy role.

"I don’t think he’s interested in being a vice-captain," he said. "To be honest with you, he’s a captain someday. I haven’t spoken to Phil. I don’t want to speak for him at all."

He concluded that he only had great things to say about Mickelson and for what they did at the past editions of the biennial event. For the uninitiated, both are 4-1 in the Ryder Cup as a team.
