Donald Trump says that he'll do that PGA Tour and LIV merger in 15 minutes
As the talks of the PGA Tour and LIV Golf merger continue, Donald Trump has made an astonishing claim. He said that if he returns to the White House, he'll get the PGA Tour and LIV Golf deal done in 15 minutes. He said, via Bunkered:
"I think it’ll come together (PGA Tour-LIV deal). Yeah, I could certainly help, but I could probably get it done. I would say it would take me the better part of 15 minutes to get that deal done."
In 2021, LIV Golf was officially launched. By 2022, it poached several PGA Tour players to play in its professional league including Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, and many others. Today, LIV Golf has become a rival of the PGA Tour and has caused it financial losses.
Trump also expressed LIV Golf players' difficulty while competing in the Major Championships. He said:
"You have many tours, but your primary tour… Because when Scotty wins or when they win on the other tour, we have a lot of… there’s a lot of great players. I mean, beyond great. It’s really top, top players on LIV."
Donald Trump said that LIV Golf players are happy after they have joined the Saudi-backed league as they have made a lot of money.
"If you speak to them, they're happy with their decisions. They made more money than they probably could ever have made. They got checks from, in some cases, hundreds of millions of dollars. So it's hard to say, gee, 'I'm going to be happy because I can't play in a certain location’. That’s not that important."
Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton are some of the big names to join LIV Golf in 2024. As per ESPN, Rahm signed a humongous multi-year deal of $350 million with LIV Golf.
