What happened to Sam Workman? Steven Alker shares details on caddie’s illness

Sam Workman has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Steven Alker recently revealed his caddie's illness in a social media post.

He jotted an emotional message thanking Sam for his endless support and for helping him with the matches.

Steven also spoke about their relationship, saying:

"Sam Workman has been much more than just a professional golf caddie to me the last four years. He has been a friend, a motivator, a decision-maker, and a fighter. We've had some tough times and, so of late, some really good times. He's been like an older brother to me since we first got connected in 2019."

He added:

"It is with a heavy heart that I share the devastating news that he has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Our hearts are broken for Sam and his family as they process this information, but in this uncertain time, we want them to know that they are not alone."

Steven Alker asked his fans to pray for his speedy recovery at the conclusion of his post.

"Please join me and my family in sending out prayers to Sam and the Workman family in his time of need. He is surrounded with well wishes and much love from ‘Team Alker’ and could use even more, from old friends, new friends, Tour friends and family. Thank you all."

Steven Alker and Sam Workman have been working together since 2019 and share a very strong bond. They are more like brothers to each other.

Sam Workman was introduced to the Kiwi golfer by a mutual friend. They soon started working together. Interestingly, their partnership helped Alker win more championships on his tours.

Alker triumphed at the TimberTech Championship in Boca Raton, Florida, pushing his earnings to $896,207 in nine tournaments since Champions debut.

On the tour, Sam Workman served as his caddie. Interestingly, it was Sam's first victory while serving as a caddie.

Sam Workman was by Alker's side throughout the senior tournaments, and he kept up his strong play. After coming in second at the Hualalai Mitsubishi Electric Championship in 2022, he won the Rapiscan Systems Classic and the Insperity Invitational.

Additionally, in 2022, he came in second place at the ClubCorp Classic. He also triumphed at the 2022 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship while competing at Benton Harbor, Michigan's The Golf Club at Harbor Shores.

With a final-round score of 63, Steven Alker captured his first senior major by three strokes. As a senior, it was his fourth in 19 games.

At the Charles Schwab Cup Championship in November 2022, Alker came in third place and won $1,000,000.

Three PGA Tours of Australasia, four Korn Ferry Tours, five PGA Tour Champions, and one European Senior Tour are among the 19 professional tournaments that Steven Alker has won in his career.

Steven Alker received two awards for his distinguished career: the Arnold Palmer Award and the Byron Nelson Award for the season's lowest-scoring average.

The Kiwi golfer also participated in the US Open and The Open Championship, where he was placed 45 and 19, respectively.
