"My putter was really good today" - Sam Burns talks about his golf gear after winning the WGC-Dell Match Play
Sam Burns had a scintillating week playing at the Austin Country Club. He defeated his friend and current World No.1 Scottie Scheffler in the semifinals of the tournament early on Sunday morning before playing the final against Cameron Young.
Ahead of the match, Burns admitted that it would be tough for him to take on Scheffler, but he did.
Burns had a resounding start to the tournament's semifinals. He made three consecutive birdies on the opening hole, taking the lead. However, Scottie soon matched him to finish in a tie. Apparently, Burns registered his victory over Scheffler in the playoffs.
In the Winning Press Conference, Sam confessed that his putter worked in his favour. He said:
"My putter was really good today. I’ve been putting it well all week and I knew that if we could just get the ball in position, give ourselves lots of chances, hopefully, they would go in.’
Cameron Young, who finished in second position, appreciated Sam Burns for his phenomenal victory at Match Play and said:
"All I can take away is that I played really well. Just thankful to get myself all the way here. I feel like I had a bunch of really tough opponents and just ran into Sam Burns playing really well today. We all know he’s one of the best players in the world, and when he’s on top of it, he might be the best player in the world. Today he was against me. It was a lot of fun. I enjoyed it. I’m playing really well, so I’m just looking forward to the next few weeks."
