Viktor Hovland opens up about his injury

Ahead of the start of the 2025 The Sentry tournament, Hovland shared a picture of an X-ray of his broken finger on his Instagram account. The Norwegian also revealed details about his injury in an interview with Norsk Golf, saying:

"I had been home in Norway for Christmas vacation, traveled all the way to Hawaii, and when I finally locked myself in here in the hotel room, I was so tired that I fell asleep on the bed with my clothes on. I woke up again in the middle of the night, and when I staggered to my feet to undress and turn off the light, I kicked the corner of the bed."

Despite the injury, Hovland teed it up at The Sentry on Thursday, January 2. He started his campaign with a round of 3-under 70. Hovland began the game on the first tee hole and then shot four birdies on the front nine.

However, he struggled on the 11th hole and made a double bogey before adding a bogey on the 12th. He shot two birdies on the back nine and wrapped the first round at 3-under 70. Hovland tied for 23rd place in the event after the first round.

Meanwhile, Tom Hoge was impressive in the opening round of The Sentry. He shot a solid round of 9-under 64. Hoge began the game with a birdie on the first hole and then added five birdies on the front nine along with a bogey. On the back nine, he recorded four birdies, finishing with a round of 64 to take the lead in the tournament.

Will Zalatoris and Hideki Matsuyama tied for second, followed by Cameron Young, Collin Morikawa, and Corey Conners, who were tied for fourth place. The PGA Tour event will conclude on Sunday, January 5.
