The Amundi Evian Championship is the only LPGA Major to be played on European greens. The 2024 edition of the event starts on July 11, and has been held at the Evian Resort Golf Club since the event's inception thirty years ago. The major has been held since on the Champions Course, which was inaugurated in 1904 and redesigned in the 1980s as an 18-hole golf course.
The course was slowly growing popular on both the amateur and professional circuits and received recognition from the Ladies European Tour when the first Evian Masters was hosted at the venue in 1994.
2013 Amundi Evian Championship winner Suzann Pettersen shared her thoughts about the surroundings of the course in the past.
“It’s just a unique spot… a romantic spot. You...get stunned by the views” Pettersen said (via NewYork Times).
Also, Karrie Webb expressed her feelings about the course after a few holes were changed in 2013.
“The changes to the finishing holes make for great theater to crown a champion and the hospitality is second to none in one of the most beautiful places in the world,” Webb said.
While many golfers liked the Amundi Evian Championship course, others such as Lexi Thompson had different views.
“You’re a beautiful place Evian but that’s just too many bad breaks with good shots for me, so bye,” Thompson wrote via Instagram.
She wrote this after missing the cut at the 2019 Amundi Evian Championship. Lexi Thompson withdrew from the Amundi Evian Championship this year.
