The Hero Dubai Desert Classic will be played at the Majlis Course at Emirates Golf Club from Jan 16–19, 2025, as part of the DP World Tour. The venue was established in 1988 and is popular for its scenic beauty and setting. The Dubai Desert Classic was hosted on the same course in 2024 as well.
Among its prominent features, the back tees measure 7,300 yards, and the middle tees stretch for 6,500. The 7th hole is a par-3 that runs over water, followed by a tough eighth hole that is difficult to navigate. The 9th hole is a par-4 hole. The last two holes are particularly notable and take a good test of golfing skills. The course is payable for non-members and takes a last-minute fee of around 1250 Dirham.
Players in the past have appreciated the quality of the course and the speed o the greens at the Emirates Golf Club. The 2024 Dubai Desert Classic was won by Rory McIlroy with a score of 14 under, one shot ahead of Adrian Meronk.
The 2023 Dubai Desert Classic was also won by McIlroy and he shot 19 under, one shot ahead of Patrick Reed. The 2022 tournament was won by Viktor Hovland with 12 under, and the 2021 edition saw Paul Casey win with a score of 17 under.
Legion XIII captain Jon Rahm set to make his Hero Dubai Desert Classic debut
Jon Rahm will play at the Dubai Desert Classic tournament in 2025 and the golfer already won 10 DP World Tour events but has yet to make a start at this tournament. He expressed his thoughts on the event before making a start. He said (via Golf Monthly),
“This is an event that I have heard a lot about and I am looking forward to making my Hero Dubai Desert Classic debut in January…I have had a lot of success in Dubai in the past so it’s a place that holds a lot of good memories for me, and it will be great to get back there.”
Meanwhile, tournament director Simon Corkill said,
“The confirmation that Jon Rahm will make his debut on the Majlis Course in January is certainly continuation of that and we’re delighted to announce his inclusion in what is shaping up to be one of the most exciting fields in the event’s history…Rahm’s record speaks for itself, and his presence alongside the likes of Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood, and other European Ryder Cup stars offers golf fans an unparalleled opportunity to witness the best.”
Jon Rahm has top-10 finishes in all of his last three DP World Tour tournaments, including a T2 at the Acciona Open de España and a T6 at the Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters.
