Nelly Korda is representing Team USA with Rose Zhang and Lilia Vu at the 2024 Paris Olympics women's golf event. After round one, Korda is T13 for the event, marking a decent start to her Olympic campaign. Le Golf National's Albatross Golf Course is the venue for this event, which also hosted men's golf.
The first round conditions were challenging as only 11 golfers remained under par for the day. The reigning Olympic champion carded an even par for the day and is placed seven strokes behind the lead.
Nelly Korda had a poor start to the 2024 Paris Olympics. She carded three bogeys in the first seven holes, and it looked like she would struggle her way through the entire round.
But, thankfully, she carded her first birdie on the 9th hole and remained +2 on the front nine. This birdie gave her a much-needed confidence boost and momentum shift, as she improved her score on the back nine to remain in the top half of the leaderboard.
The American star carded two birdies on the back nine and made sure she didn't drop any more shots, eventually finishing her first round at even par. The local star, Celine Boutier, leads the event after day one as he carded -7 with eight birdies and a bogey, while South Africa's Ashleigh Buhai is placed second with a score of -4.
Nelly Korda says her game is trending in the right direction
Nelly Korda had an exceptional start to her LPGA season this year. She registered six victories in seven starts and showcased unreal dominance. However, she has struggled with her game slightly of late, missing the cut in three of her last four tournaments.
But the 26-year-old golfer believes her game is going in the right direction. Korda said she took a week off and worked on her game.
"Hopefully trending in the right direction. I took some time off after Evian and kind of put my clubs to the side for a week, and then grinded for two weeks. I have Jamie out here with me this week, and he's always really nice to be around and keeps it super light," Korda said during the pre-round press conference.
She believes golf is a funny game where players can feel on top of the world and then get to the bottom in the next few seconds.
"You know, the game of golf of is a funny game. Sometimes you feel on top of the world and in a matter of a couple seconds, you just feel like you're on the bottom of the sea. So it definitely makes you appreciate the good golf that you play, but yeah, I mean, you have to have a mix of everything in there and everything can't always go well," Nelly concluded.
