Ahead of the second round of the PGA Championship, Scottie Scheffler was detained by the Louisville Metro Police Department near the entrance gate of the Valhalla Golf Club. He was scheduled to start his second round at Valhalla on Friday, May 17, at 8:48 a.m. ET from the 10th tee.

The second round of the PGA Championship was scheduled to tee off at 7:15 a.m. ET, but play was delayed due to a serious accident near the golf course.

ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington reported that the World No. 1 golfer was detained by police officers on Friday morning while heading to the Valhalla Golf Club. This happened due to a misunderstanding when Scottie Scheffler tried to drive past a police officer to reach the course.

Following this, the officer tried to stop Scheffler’s car, causing him to halt at the club's entrance. He was asked to exit the car, and when he did, he was shoved against the car and put into handcuffs.

Darlington also shared the video he took when the Masters champion was arrested. In the clip, the police officer can be heard saying,

"Right now he is going to jail."

Earlier, the Louisville Metro Police Department released an official statement on the accident that happened earlier.

"About 5:00 ET this morning, the LMPD responded to a call of a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian and a bus," LMPD was quoted as saying via Sky Sports.
"Our preliminary investigation found that an adult male pedestrian was crossing Shelbyville Roadsouth to north when he was struck by a shuttle bus that was traveling eastbound in the compulsory center lane dedicated for buses."

The department further stated that the pedestrian didn't survive and was declared dead on the spot. The LMPD traffic unit was doing further investigation.

For the uninitiated, Scottie Scheffler is playing his first event since becoming a father. Last week, his wife, Meredith, gave birth to a son. He entered the week as the favorite to win the PGA Championship and was in a good position after shooting 67 in the opening round.

Scheffler is looking to become the first player since Jordan Spieth to win the first two Majors of the season. He has won four events this season, including the Masters Tournament and the Players Championship.
