Justin Thomas carded six birdies and no bogeys in the third round of the Hero World Challenge to climb to the top of the leaderboard. Thomas replaced Scottie Scheffler, who carded four birdies and a bogey.
Thomas is looking for his first Hero World Challenge victory. His best finish in six previous appearances is a tie for third (2023). Thomas has been out of the winner's circle since winning his second PGA Championship title in 2022.
The best score of the third round was carded by Tom Kim. The Korean scored 10-under 62 despite a double bogey on the 17th. Kim birdied the first four holes in a row and then the 7th and 9th to finish the front nine at 6 under.
Kim continued to roll on the back nine, adding five more birdies without a bogey until the 16th. His biggest complication of the day came on the 17th hole when he sent his tee shot into a greenside bunker.
Kim missed his first attempt out of the bunker as the ball rolled back into the sand. He could only reach the green with his third shot and then two-putted for double bogey. He finished the round with another birdie on the 18th to move up seven places to third.
Other players who moved up were Sahith Theegala and Robert MacIntyre. Theegala moved up three spots to tie for fifth place thanks to his 66 in Saturday's third round. MacIntyre also moved up three places to tie for seventh.
The opposite happened to Akshay Bhatia, who dropped three places on the leaderboard after carding a 1-under 71 in the third round. Ludvig Aberg, Sepp Straka, and Sungjae Im also dropped three places after carding 72 on Saturday.
