Speaking to the DP World Tour News Service at the end of the round, Hidalgo said:

"Completely different, I would say. I already said to my caddie, I feel every shot today. Yesterday, I was completely blind and I was just hitting the ball and I don't know why it was directly to the pin. But today I played really good...really happy with the way I play."

Three-time Open de España winner Jon Rahm carded an eagle, four birdies, and four bogeys for a 2-under-par total that placed him tied for third place, five shots off the pace.

Rikuya Hoshino carded an impressive 9-under 62 to climb 118 places up the leaderboard to T12. Another player to avoid the cut was Shane Lowry, who carded his second bogey-free round at five under.
