Joe Dean played the first round of the Open de France bogey-free with an eagle and four birdies. Thorbjørn Olesen and Jesper Svensson were level on seven birdies and one bogey each.
At the end of the first round, Thorbjørn Olesen mentioned the high quality of Le Golf National as a golf course. He said (via ASAP Sports):
"I think all in all it's just a great golf course. I don't think there's one bad golf hole on it...If you are really on your game, you have a lot of birdie chances...I think it's just a great golf course, and I really enjoy playing here."
Joe Dean, meanwhile, said he was concentrating on keeping the ball on the fairway (via ASAP Sports):
"Good, stress-free golf. Tried keeping it in the fairways...Just hit it in the fairway to be able to control the ball. It's been great. Hopefully another three days of that and we'll see what happens."
DP World Tour rookie Dean is looking for his first win on the circuit. Fellow rookie Svensson has already won his first event of the season and is looking for his second. For Olesen, winning the Open de France would be his ninth European Tour title.
