Who is Mac Meissner? Everything about the rookie leading the Barracuda Championship

Mac Meissner is currently on the top of the leaderboard at the 2024 Barracuda Championship. The second round of the tournament is concluded on Friday, July 19, at the Old Greenwood course at Tahoe Mountain Club in Truckee, California.

The Barracuda Championship is the lone PGA Tour event that follows the Modified Stableford scoring format. The scoring is done as follows:

  • Double Eagle: 8 points
  • Eagle: 5 points
  • Birdie: 2 points
  • Par: 0 points
  • Bogey: -1 point
  • Double Bogey or more: -3 points

Meissner secured six birdies in the first round, gaining 12 points. He lost two points for as many bogeys. He was tied for 28th at 10 points. In the second round, Meissner scored eight birdies amassing 16 points and an aggregate score of 26 points.

After the round, Meissner said (via PGA Tour):

"I've driven it well. Taken advantage of a lot of good iron shots. It was nice to see a couple of putts fall today. It’s been frustrating the last month or so."

Mac Meissner was born in Charleston, South Carolina, and currently resides in Dallas, Texas. Meissner learned golf from his father at the age of five. He played collegiate golf at Southern Methodist University where he won the Byron Nelson Award. He turned professional in 2021. He started playing on the PGA Tour Canada and won the 2021 Bolingbrook Golf Club Invitational.

Meissner competed on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2022 and 2023. He had five top-5 finishes and six top-10 finishes on the tour. His notable performances include a runner-up finish at the 2023 Panama Championship where he lost to Pierceson Coody and Sam Saunders.

Mac Meissner earned the PGA Tour card after finishing in the top 30 spots on the 2023 Korn Ferry Tour Points List. As per the PGA Tour website, he has made $1,457,312 through golf.

Mac Meissner has had a decent 2024 season. He has had two top-10 finishes and seven top-25 finishes this year. His best performances include a T5 finish at the Charles Schwab Challenge and a T10 finish at the Valero Texas Open.

Meissner's other notable finishes include T13 at the Myrtle Beach Classic, T15 at the ISCO Championship, and T20 at the John Deere Classic. Meissner is currently 154th in the OWGR rankings and 103rd in the 2024 FedExCup standings.
