The 2025 PGA Tour season is set to tee off on Thursday, January 2 with The Sentry. The Opening Drive of the circuit will begin with the contest at the Plantation Course at Kapalua in Maui. Interestingly, the season opener will also be the first of eight Signature Events on the tour’s new calendar.
The Sentry 2025 will have an expanded field for the third consecutive year. The competition, played as a winners-only tournament, will have qualifiers from the top 50 in the previous season’s FedExCup points list. As a result, the event will see a stacked 60-player field featuring 31 PGA Tour winners from 2024 and 29 players via the rankings.
Golfers, including the likes of Xander Schauffele, Wyndham Clark and Collin Morikawa, among others, will take on each other for the whopping $3,600,000 winner’s paycheck from the $20,000,000 purse. Keegan Bradley, Ludvig Aberg, Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Tony Finau, Patrick Cantlay and Adam Scott are among other notable names teeing up at the contest in Maui.
The Sentry’s reigning champion Chris Kirk also returns to defend his title next weekend. This year’s runner-up Sahith Theegala will also be on the field.
World No.2 Schauffele will be the highest-rated player on the competition field, as No. 1 Scottie Scheffler withdrew from the event after sustaining a right-hand injury on Christmas Day. He's expected to return for The American Express, starting January 16.
Notably, World No.8 Hovland also announced suffering a broken pinky toe on Christmas day, but his name remains on the competition’s field.
