Who are the sponsor exemptions for the 2024 Hero World Challenge? All you need to know

With the conclusion of the PGA Tour's FedExCup Fall schedule, all eyes are on the 2024 Hero World Challenge. Recently, Tiger Woods announced the three-sponsor exemption for this year's tournament: Justin Thomas, Jason Day, and Nick Dunlap.

This year, the tournament hosted by Tiger Woods will be held at Albany Golf Course in Nassau, New Providence, Bahamas, from Thursday, December 5, to Sunday, December 8.

Every year, the top Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) players and some exemptions compete at the tournament. The field consists of 20 players, with eight players making their debut at the tournament.

Justin Thomas is the first sponsor exemption of the Hero World Challenge. He is currently ranked No. 25 in the OWGR rankings. The 31-year-old has had a phenomenal 2024 season. In 20 starts, he has had one runner-up, six top-10 and top-25 finishes. He tied for 14th in the FedExCup standings.

Jason Day, World No. 32, is the second exemption of the Hero World Challenge. In 20 starts, he has four top-10 finishes and eight top-25 finishes this year. He finished 55th in the FedExCup standings.

Lastly, Nick Dunlap, the World No.33, turned professional earlier this year and has quickly gained prominence with his performances. In 23 starts, he has had two wins at the American Express tournament and the Barracuda Championship.

The event will be headlined by defending champion and World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, Ludvig Aberg, Wyndham Clark, and Patrick Cantlay. There are seven players from World No.11 to World No.20 in the OWGR standings which include Sahith Theegala, Keegan Bradley, Russell Henley, Robert MacIntyre, Sam Burns, Brian Harman, and Sungjae Im.


Who are the past winners of the Hero World Challenge?

The Hero World Challenge started in the year 2000 and the inaugural edition of the tournament was won by Tom Lehman by three strokes over David Duval. Last year, Scottie Scheffler won the tournament by three strokes over Sepp Straka.

Tiger Woods has won the tournament a record five times, in the years, 2001, 2004, 2006, 2007, and 2011. Let's take a look at the past winners of the tournament:
